About TWMIGC

To ensure equitable opportunity and resources for all mothers, To Whom Much Is Given, Inc was founded. When single moms are supported regularly and can partake in engagement opportunities, they have far greater outcomes in life. Positive social connections and enrichment activities have all been shown to enhance outcomes. To Whom Much Is Given, Inc is a nonprofit corporation that provides supportive services, outreach, and resources for single mothers and their families in Houston, Texas. Support for domestic violence survivors will also be provided by the organization. The organization was created for single mothers with the objective of enriching their lives with support and development opportunities, providing a holistic approach to solving the lack of selfsustainability and support services. To Whom Much Is Given, Inc will do this by partnering with local organizations, community leaders, and neighbors to work together in providing services to those in need. To Whom Much Is Given, Inc believes they can create positive and optimal outcomes for single families by instilling proper support and mentorship access.

The Stat

It is alarming to learn statistics regarding single motherhood and domestic violence. They are:

  • According to current data, approximately 2 out of 5 children are born to unmarried moms in the US.

  • As of 2019, there were 15.76 million children living with their single mothers in the US.

  • When it comes to the total income, single mothers earned, on average, $40,165 in taxable income. Of this income, a third of single moms spend 50% on housing alone, leaving very little for food, clothing, childcare, transportation, and other household expenses.

  • 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe domestic partner physical violence, domestic partner sexual violence, and/or intimate partner stalking with impacts such as injury, fearfulness, post-traumatic stress disorder, use of victim services, contraction of sexually transmitted diseases, etc.

  • 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. This involves a variety of behaviors (slapping, shoving, pushing).

  • On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by a personal partner in the United States. For one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men.

  • On a typical day, there are more than 20,000 phone calls placed to domestic violence hotlines nationwide.

  • Intimate partner violence accounts for 15% of all violent crimes.
